Crafts for Winter Break to Keep Kids Occupied

Happy Winter Break! While many kids enthusiastically wait for the long holiday break, parents may be anxious that their kids will be home with nothing to do. We think winter break is an excellent time for children to use their creativity and express themselves through various crafts. So why not keep the kids occupied with some fun projects to help pass the time? Here are some ideas for winter break crafts that your kids will love!

Watercolor Snowflakes

Let's create beautiful snowflakes from coffee filters, watercolor markers, and scissors. This is an easy craft to prep for and the results are adorable!

Here's what you'll need:

  • White Coffee Filters
  • Watercolor Markers
  • Paintbrush
  • A Cup of Water
  • Scissors

Instructions

Start off by letting your kids color the entirety of the white coffee filter however they like. Then, using a cup of water and a paintbrush, have your kids blur the marker colors together until it appears like watercolor. Try not to get the coffee filter too wet since it'll take an extremely long time to dry.

Once the coffee filter is dry, fold the filter into half and then fold the half into thirds. Fold the third into half and then use scissors to cut out shapes on both sides. Unfold the coffee filter, and then you'll be able to see your unique masterpiece!

These beautiful snowflakes are perfect for hanging up on walls, refrigerators, or even stringing them together into a unique garland.

2 Ingredient Play Dough

Who doesn't love play dough? Not only is our play dough recipe super easy, but it's also a great sensory tool for kids.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 Cups of Cornstarch
  • 1 Cup of Conditioner
  • Food Dye (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)

Instructions

Combine the cornstarch and conditioner into a big bowl. Start mixing together the ingredients and eventually use your hands to mash the ingredients into a doughy consistency. Keep mixing the ingredients until the dough is no longer sticky to your fingers! If you were planning on dyeing your dough a fun color or adding in sparkles or different textures, make sure to add those ingredients before you combine the dough. When not playing with the play dough, keep the dough in an air-tight container!

  • Photos

Instructions

Glue popsicle sticks together in a rectangular shape, then attach a picture of your family inside it. Decorate the frame with ribbon, pom-poms, buttons or any other decorations you have lying around. Let the kids’ imaginations run wild as they create unique frames for their favorite photos!
