Introducing Our New Sloth Design

Taking Advice from a Sloth

Just in time for you to start preparing for back to school, we are announcing another new design!

Our new sloth labels are a total cuteness overload! This new friend is available starting this week, June 29th, and we’re sure you’ll love to stick them to all of your back to school items. These labels for kids are  available in our School Labels Pack, as well as our Kindergarten Labels Pack.

And aside from the cuteness, this design represents some messages that might be helpful to incorporate into our daily lives at the moment. Seeing this label on your little one’s school supplies will remind you to take your time, relax often, and get plenty of sleep.

The Sloth School Labels packThe Sloth Kindergarten Labels pack, which comes with 26 Small Rectangle Labels, 10 Rectangle Labels, 1 Large Rectangle Label, 4 Square Contact Labels, 8 Shoe Labels, and 40 Circle Clothing Labels, is great for your more seasoned school-goers, or those who might need some extra labeling in their life. This pack is an excellent option for any parent who wants to get their student more organized, but doesn’t know where to start.

The Sloth Kindergarten Labels pack, which comes with 12 Small Rectangle Labels, 5 Rectangle Labels, 9 Shape Labels, 8 Shoe Labels, and 40 Circle Clothing Labels, is a great starting point for your little first-time students.

Additionally, these cute sloths are available as personalized clothing labels (both stick-on and iron-on), camp labels, contact stickers, and more!

Let us be the first to tell you, these labels are durable! They are printed with eco-friendly ink on our long-lasting vinyl material. They are waterproof, laundry safe, microwave safe, and freezer safe! The best part is, they will last the entire school year (and beyond in most cases!). Customize a set of our new Sloth Labels and you’re well on your way to making your life that much easier for you as a parent!

Our goal is striving to make mix-ups less likely, and ensure you feel as comfortable as you can sending your little one off to school. Things will inevitably get lost throughout the school year and will never be found, or switched accidentally with a classmate. Now, more than ever, we know you want to make sure everything is organized and easy for your student. We are here to help you with that in every way we can.

So, sloths...

Our New Sloth DesignThey are extra cute, but they are also a super interesting and fun animal that we LOVED to learn about while designing these lovely labels. They also represent many messages that all of us need to hear. Now is a time to slow down and hang out.

Here’s what we discovered and we think you and your little one would love to know:

These animals are most recognizable for one thing: their speed. So why on Earth are they so slow!? At their absolute fastest, they get up to a speed of 13 feet per minute, making them the slowest animal on the planet – even beating out tortoises and snails!

The answer is, sloths have leafy, low-calorie diets and very slow metabolisms on top of that. Interestingly, their metabolic rate is only about 40-45% of what would be typical for their body weight. Because of this specialized metabolism, sloths need to be sparing with their energy use. They move slowly and tend not to get too far away from home. They also have long limbs and curved claws for hanging tightly onto tree branches, which is the adaptation to upside-down tree living.

But we should be honest here - we are all a little envious of the typical day of a sloth. They spend a lot of their happy life sleeping, cradled in the canopy of the Amazon Rainforest. Our friends sleep for about 15 hours a day. They are mostly nocturnal – they sleep during the day and eat at night. And, in addition to their favorable sleep schedule, these animals are native to Central America and northern parts of South America, where they enjoy a largely warm climate all year round. Jealous!

But, funny enough, sloths weren’t always so non-threatening and cuddly-looking. Before they evolved into what we know today, they were actually the size of elephants and extremely aggressive! Some were nearly 20 feet long from snout to tail, with massive claws for pulling tree branches down to eat. However, these animals went extinct 10,000 years ago, and it’s thought to have been due to hunting by early humans. It’s good to know that at least the scariest animals can become unassuming cute creatures later on down the line. Nowadays, they top out at about 2.5 feet and weigh around 13 pounds.

Because they are so slow, they have a tough time getting away fast enough from their predators, including jaguars, eagles, and snakes. They have something up their sleeve for that though…they don’t stink! To not attract themselves to the attention of anything that might want them as a meal, they don’t sweat at all. However, just because they don’t smell doesn’t mean they probably don’t need a good bath. Sloths’ coats are usually habitats for insects, algae, and bugs. However, this also can be a great asset to their disguise! The green algae on their fur works as a great disguise in the middle of the rainforest to keep them safe from anyone looking for a meal.

These animals are surprising, though! We were shocked to learn that sloths are actually quite fast in the water. They can get up to speeds three times faster in water than their speed on land! I wish I had their ability during that swim meet where I came in dead-last in 6th grade.

Another trick we all wish we had; three-toed sloths can turn their heads almost 360 degrees. That would really help when trying to get out of the driveway! You would never have to check your car mirrors 100 times before backing out again!

But, of course, there are some things (namely, one thing) about sloths we are not so jealous.

Sloths give birth upside down. What?! How is that even possible? Again, sloths are very vulnerable to predators on land, so they take on the task of birthing upside down while hanging from a tree. We still don’t understand how these strong moms get it done, but it seems to work so I guess they’re doing something right! The moms are usually pregnant for seven to ten months, and its typical for them to only give birth to one baby during a lifetime…because its hard work!

Overall, the 40 years that they’re on this planet sounds pretty great, and we can’t get enough of them. We hope you learned something about sloths as well as learn something from sloths. We definitely have!
